LED Retrofit: What is it?
When you retrofit a light fixture, it simply means to are adding something to it that is new. This can be new technology to make it have a different functionality, a new component, or a new accessory to make it work better. Adding something that wasn’t there during the original construction is the process of retrofitting. Think of the definition of the word “retrofit” as “conversion” – you are converting your current fixtures, in this case, LED lighting, into something new. Today, many retrofits are found in the form of LED lights.

If you wish to keep the existing fixtures, you may slightly reduce your options when it comes to bulbs. Whereas, if you were to replace both the light and the fixture, you should be able to find many more options. It’s also important to keep in mind that in both cases, many LEDs are usually compatible with more standard fixtures.
If you wish to dim the LED fixtures, you will need to purchase special LED dimmer as this is usually not compatible with traditional dimmers.
